Insurance Benefits of Composite Cedar Shakes
Insurance companies are more and more cautious of advising homeowners to install or repair their natural wood roof, especially in high fire danger zones due to durability concerns and fire risk associated with wood shake shingles. The installation of a CeDUR composite roof means extreme fire resistance and potential reductions in your homeowners insurance cost.
Due to our impact resistance and fire resistant technology CeDUR is eligible for impact resistance discounts. CeDUR is listed on most major insurance companies premium credits product listing. This includes companies like State Farm Insurance, Chubb Insurance and American Family Insurance. Homeowners with a CeDUR composite roof have the potential to receive up to 20% in insurance policy discounts which results in significant long term cost savings.
Insurance Savings - CeDUR is eligible for Impact Resistance Discounts
With proper testing and certification, insurance companies are willing to provide homeowners with discounts for installing a Class 4 UL 2218 impact resistant roof. The Best Wood Shake Composite Roofing Product
CeDUR composite roofing tiles are polyurethane based and feature Closed Cell Technology. In other words, CeDUR is a solid product from top to bottom and front to back. CeDUR is not a hollow back or cavity back roofing product, so on the back side of the product you will not notice a waffle like structure. Instead CeDUR is a solid product throughout with color through pigmentation, so each individual CeDUR shake is solid throughout. Our proprietary manufacturing process allows CeDUR synthetic wood shakes to be solid throughout and extremely light weight and durable.
Our color through pigmentation and Closed Cell Technology allows color to permeate all the way through our product instead of being applied to just the surface of the product. This allows for easy installation on your roofs valleys, eaves, gable, rake, and hips because the CeDUR product can be easily cut and scored using a utility knife to fit into tight or unique spaces on your roof without sacrificing appearance.
A solid product composition also means better insulation for your home. CeDUR is an energy efficient roofing material with an insulation R-Value in excess of 2.0. This provides added roof insulation and makes your home warmer in the winter and cooler in the summer. Install CeDUR polymer cedar shakes with standing seam metal or copper roof accents to really complement your home’s architecture and improve the curb appeal and property value of your home!
Eco Friendly Roof
CeDUR Composite Roofing Products are environmentally friendly and will last much longer than traditional roofing options like asphalt shingles, wood shake shingles and architectural shingles. CeDUR synthetic roofs are polyurethane based and are designed and engineered to be extremely durable, energy efficient, low maintenance, eco friendly, cost effective, and feature a 50 Year Lifetime Limited Warranty. A CeDUR synthetic roof features a longer roof life cycle then traditional roofing products and will increase the curb appeal and property value of your home while helping you be an environmentally conscious consumer.
Synthetic Cedar Shake Roof Cost
Costly maintenance and roof repairs can be a frustrating out of pocket expense for homeowners. CeDUR synthetic cedar shakes are comparable in cost to most traditional roofing alternatives and require virtually no maintenance. Our light weight faux cedar shake shingles can be installed in any climate or environment and will immediately improve the curb appeal and property value of your home. CeDUR composite roofing products are energy efficient and much more durable than natural cedar shakes, asphalt shingles, clay roof tiles, concrete roof tiles, architectural shingles, fiberglass shingles and Spanish clay tiles.
The cost of cedar shake shingles vary depending on your state and your location. Just remember, if you are looking into traditional roofing alternatives like wood shake shingles, concrete roof tiles or asphalt shingles they have a shortened life cycle and they will require more maintenance over time when compared to synthetic products.
Fire Resistant Synthetic Cedar Wood Shakes
Protect Your Family and Your Home from Wildfires
Fire Resistant Composite Roofing
Our synthetic composite cedar shakes are fire resistant and Stand Alone Class A Fire Rated. Many roofing products feature a Class A Fire Rating, but you must use a special underlayment system to achieve the Class A Fire Rating. The CeDUR product itself is Class A Fire Rated - without the need of a special fire resistant underlayment - with testing certified through the ICC (International Code Council).
Unlike many synthetic composite roofing products that are composed primarily of Polyethylene, CeDUR is composed of Polyurethane. This allows us to manufacture a roofing material that is extremely light weight and durable and looks more realistic than natural products or alternative synthetic composite roofing tiles. In the event of a fire, CeDUR self extinguishes flame spread and does not allow a flame to propagate on the surface of the product.
Did You Know?
That natural cedar shakes ignite at around 375 degrees Fahrenheit. The temperature on our CeDUR Class A certified burning brand test reached temperatures as high as 1,400 degrees Fahrenheit and CeDUR composite roofing tiles did not reach ignition. Click here to view our CeDUR Class A Fire Resistant Burning Brand test on YouTube.
In the event of a wildfire, flames spread roof to roof, with embers from the fire being a major cause of traveling fire damage. Using a roofing product that self extinguishes in the event of a fire has the potential to save properties and save lives. In terms of installation, you can lay CeDUR shakes down on top of 30 pound felt and you have a Class A Fire Rated roofing system.
This fire resistant technology is patented and proprietary to CeDUR.
CeDUR Roof Installation & Accessories
Our synthetic roofing tiles are durable and easy to install for roofing contractors. Our Closed Cell Technology helps a roofing contractor easily install CeDUR. No special tools, hardware or accessories are needed and CeDUR shakes can be cut, nailed or screwed. The best part is that our synthetic wood shakes install just like natural cedar shakes, so if a roofing contractor has experience installing wood shakes, they can easily install our synthetic roofing tiles.
A CeDUR polymer roof installs just like natural hand split heavy cedar shakes. There is no need for special accessories or special tools during the installation. CeDUR features just three product pieces: 1) starter 2) CeDUR field material, and 3) hip / ridge material.
CeDUR is extremely light weight at just 170 pounds per square (1 square = 100 square feet on your roof). CeDUR composite tiles are lighter than wood, clay tiles, recycled rubber and other composite roofing materials. This allows for easy installation for a roofing contractor at the roof's hips, valley's, eaves, and rake edges as you can score and cut our product with a utility knife or skill saw.
Our synthetic cedar shake roof products do not require a special batten system during installation or the need for costly structural weight modifications or special reinforcement to the roof structure. CeDUR is Class 4 Impact Rated, UL 2218 impact rating (the highest impact resistance available), and CeDUR is resistant to scratching, scuffing and hail damage. CeDUR is also Class A Fire Rated, ASTM E108 (the highest fire resistance available), without the need for a special fire resistant underlayment during installation.
For a roofing contractor, this means they can easily install and maneuver the CeDUR product and this helps ensure a superior installation. Unlike other roofing products that may require a batten system prior to roof installation, CeDUR installs direct to the roof deck and no special tools or hardware are required during installation. CeDUR is trusted around the globe and our wood shake composite roofing products install just like natural cedar shakes.

Class 4 Impact Resistant Shingles - CeDUR Roof Shingles
When it comes to Class 4 shingles and impact resistance for your home, here are a few things you should know:
There are four impact resistance ratings from Class 1 to Class 4.
Class 4 impact resistant shingles are the most durable and impact resistant.
If you have Class 4 impact resistant roof tiles then your roof is able to better withstand hail damage.
In the Class 4 impact resistance test, a 2 inch steel ball is dropped from a height of 20+ feet on multiple surface points of a roofing tile.
In order to achieve a Class 4 impact resistance rating the roofing material must withstand the impact test and not suffer damage.
CeDUR synthetic shakes passed the Underwriters Laboratories UL 2218 impact test with a Class 4 Impact Resistance Rating. This is the highest impact rating that a roofing product can achieve.
Our testing was completed through QAI Laboratories (Quality Assurance Institute) and our test results can be accessed using the link below or by typing ESR3838 into a Google Search.

Authentic Cedar Shake Color Options
At CeDUR, we manufacture 4 product colors: Shiloh, Live Oak, Walden and Golden Cedar.
Our colors are designed and engineered to emulate the authentic beauty of natural cedar shakes and complement the architectural integrity of your home. While other roofing alternatives claim to offer the real wood shake look, none can match the authentic wood beauty of CeDUR synthetic roofing products. Other roofing products that attempt to look like natural cedar shakes are simply un-authentic and have a sheen look and shiny appearance in direct sunlight. CeDUR synthetic wood shakes do not utilize UV inhibitors or UV stabilizers. Our products age naturally with the sun’s UV light within the first 90 days of installation. After the initial aging process the color will set and remain constant over the life of the product.
Our faux cedar shakes offer the beautiful aesthetics of hand split cedar while providing the rustic and natural appearance that you expect with real wood shake shingles. Natural movement is designed into our product to give your roof the natural cedar shake appearance. A CeDUR roof provides depth, dimension, thickness, texture and deep grain patterns that you expect from the most realistic imitation shake.
Trusted on Historic Preservation Projects - CeDUR Synthetic Wood Shakes
At CeDUR we understand that replacing or repairing older roofs can be difficult and costly. Traditional roofing materials found on aged properties no longer meet modern safety or building codes. CeDUR shakes are trusted by historians, preservationists, and historical preservation societies across the United States.
A traditional roofing material like wood shake shingles or asphalt shingles is a liability during severe weather because they do not adequately protect the building from natures harsh elements and they have a shortened life cycle. CeDUR shakes offer a long-term roofing solution while enhancing a property’s curb appeal and more importantly restoring the intended architectural design and style of a historical property. CeDUR shakes provide the authentic wood look in a durable and lasting polymer material that is light weight and does not require structural weight modifications prior to installation.
CeDUR shingles make it possible to match the original intended look of your historical property while meeting modern day performance measurables. As a pioneer of polyurethane roofing materials since 1998, CeDUR has been a reliable roofing material for government projects, religious facilities, and educational buildings.

Why you should install CeDUR Composite Cedar Shakes
CeDUR is a pioneer in the synthetic roofing industry and the long term composite roofing solution you can trust. CeDUR roofing products provide the most beautiful wood shake look with unsurpassed performance capabilities and numerous homeowner benefits. CeDUR is an energy efficient roofing material and the most sustainable roofing alternative available. CeDUR has passed the industry’s most difficult testing standards with regards to impact resistance and fire resistance.
Many insurance companies will no longer insure wood shake roofing due to fire risk. Natural cedar wood shake shingles are available with pressure treated chemical preservatives and fire retardant to increase fire resistance. However natural wood shake roofs are still prone to insect damage, decay, color fading, rotting, and shortened life span. Unlike cedar wood shakes, CeDUR is fire resistant and does not rot, split, dry out, or breed insects or debris build up.
We achieve our CeDUR Class A Fire Rating from the product itself, not from a fire resistant underlayment. Other synthetic composite roofing products and wood shake alternatives require a special fire resistant underlayment to achieve their fire rating. The CeDUR product alone is Class A Fire Rated, no special fire resistant underlayment is necessary. Our polymer roofing products are fire resistant and Class 4 impact resistant which can result in long term cost savings for property owners and significant discounts on your homeowners insurance policy.
Homeowners that want beautiful aesthetics, lasting performance, stunning curb appeal, long term cost savings, and the most beautiful roof in the neighborhood will love CeDUR. A CeDUR roof adds rustic wood shake beauty to a property without expensive repair or maintenance costs. Backed by a 50 Year Lifetime Limited Warranty CeDUR offers discerning homeowners a highly durable and highly engineered roofing product designed to withstand nature's worst elements. Trusted by architects, roofing contractors, designers, home builders, property managers, and homeowners across the United States, CeDUR shingles are the long term roofing solution you can trust.
